Innovative and affordable housing models in the Donaufeld

Starting in 2021, the quarter "An der Schanze" will be used to create a new residential quarter with subsidized apartments, a project of a housing construction group, a student dormitory and a kindergarten for around 3,300 new residents. Particular attention is paid to affordable housing for the group of single parents.

On a site in the southeast of the district of Floridsdorf, a new residential area with around 1,500 apartments will be built on 10 construction sites with a total of 71,400 m² by 2023. As part of the IBA_Wien, new models of living and housing will be tested. Thus, an active contribution to the further development of the city will be made. In order to promote the social inclusion of single-parents, concrete proposals are expected to contribute to Building social networks and promoting neighborly contacts. A functioning ground floor zone will make a significant contribution to this goal.

The recently launched developer competition is part of the 2018-2020 Housing Offensive. In a 2-stage, dialogue-oriented developer competition, the foundations are laid for a new, lively urban quarter with a high quality of living and an urban character. One third of the residential units are being built as particularly affordable rental SMART apartments.

Offers for single parents

Part of the task are implementation concepts that deal with the Special but differentiated needs of the growing group of single parents. Spatial concept with private areas or with independent living units in combination with common areas of use should enable both retreat and supportive community. With diversity of offers, the diversity of the target group should be taken into account. Accompanied co-decision additionally increases the flexibility. Collaborative facilities and the open space offer should support communication and neighborly contacts. The aim is that community facilities can be used as a temporary "housing extension" for children's parties and the like.

Usage concepts for living ground floor zones

Under consideration of the needs of the new urban quarter and ist neighborhood, local amenities, catering, small retail and service facilities and complementary social infrastructure are planned along a central axis, for the organization of which new concepts are expected. Quieter residential uses are to be created in the ground floor zones adjacent to the small-scale buildings with terraced houses and allotment areas.
