The AALbin project in the IBA neighborhood Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung aims to create a passion for digitization among senior citizens. Wiener Wohnen of the City of Vienna wants to encourage its older tenants to actively engage with new technologies and their possibilities.
As part of the project, a total of 30 senior citizens will be equipped with tablets and smartwatches including a mobile emergency call. In workshops over the period of one and a half years, the participants will learn how to meaningfully use these digital devices. These workshops will focus on mutual learning: the senior citizens will learn how to use digital technologies and Wiener Wohnen will learn about the needs and digital preferences of the older generation - a project on equal terms. The results of this project are to be incorporated into the design of future digital services of Wiener Wohnen and thus benefit all tenants of the municipal housing.read more
Grandma and grandpa are now online
Participants in the AALbin project receive a tablet with a charging station and an integrated speaker, which they can use for video calls to their family, to write e-mails, or also in other ways, for example to be reminded of appointments in their digital calendar, such as drink regularly, going for a walk, or taking medication. Additionally, they can browse the internet, find out about the news and weather, listen to the radio, play games, and much more. In this way, seniors will learn about technical possibilities and familiarize themselves with their functions in order to increase their ability to use digital offerings.
The package also includes a smartwatch with an integrated pedometer and a mobile emergency button for emergencies. With the push of a button, a voice connection with the emergency call center is automatically established, and help arrives whenever it is needed. If the button was pushed by accident, you can simply tell the smartwatch verbally. And of course it also displays the time.
The project AALbin is carried out in cooperation with Urban Innovation Vienna GmbH.
