Upgrading & Redevelopment Bergtaidingweg

As part of the IBA_Vienna 2022, the Bergtaidingweg as a promenade through the Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung Ost will be made safer, more attractive and better usable for residents and visitors. Wiener Wohnen, together with the district of Favoriten, is implementing a variety of measures along Bergtaidingweg to motivate greater use of green space and create more meeting spaces for community activi-ties (e.g., with the new multigenerational square or the neighborhood center). A survey of residents (2017) also shows that the residents of PAHO would like to see changes in the area of mobility.

Renovation and widening of access areas

The entrance area to Bergtaidingweg near Ada-Christen-Gasse was made safer, more open and more appealing for all residents and visitors. The renovation and widening will provide barrier-free access, especially for older people and children. Furthermore, the access areas at Jura-Soyfer-Gasse and Johann-Pölzer-Gasse will also be renovated and widened.

In Ada-Christen-Gasse and Jura-Soyfer-Gasse, new green areas with trees and perennials were built, thus upgrading the areas. The automatic irrigation systems in the green areas ensure that the plants get enough water even in hot and dry summer months.

Upgrading and redesign along the pathway

A new lighting system with LED lighting fixtures will line the Bergtaidingweg in the future, and a new road surface will promote accessibility and mobility. New and more seating along the Bergtaidingweg will provide opportunities for a break. The installation of drinking fountains will serve to cool down and refresh, especially in summer. Especially for young residents, a parking area for scooters and bicycles is to be created near the playground at the level of Moritz-Seeler-Gasse. In addition, colorful play markings on the ground are planned at selected points along Bergtaidingweg between the multigenerational square and the neighborhood center to make it more fun for young and old alike to move around.

The structural redesign will not only make the road crossings in the course of Bergtaidingweg easier accessable and safer for traffic, but Bergtaidingweg, as an important foot connection across the Per Albin Hansson housing estate, will also become more visually appealing and climate-friendly.The first renovation work has already begun in the fall of 2021. All measures are to be implemented by the end of 2022!
