Similar to micro-enterprises and small enterprises, artists and cultural workers play an important role in neighborhood development. Through their work, open studios and commitment, they contribute to more togetherness and revitalized neighborhoods. Art and culture have long been defined as the "engine of urban development". So far, this "engine" has been "driven" primarily in the development of existing buildings.
Artists and representatives of developers and politics will discuss how artists and cultural workers can be integrated into the processes of neighborhood development to create win-win situations for everyone and under what conditions studios and living spaces in subsidized housing are conceivable or affordable together.
How can art and cultural professionals be involved in the processes of neighborhood development so that win-win situations are created for all and under what conditions are studios and living spaces in subsidized housing conceivable or affordable together?
Introduction:
Conversation pieces by Oliver Hangl with Hanna Schimek, artist & Karim El Seroui, architect and artist
The performance and media artist Oliver Hangl has two interlocutors work together on a block of clay parallel to the exchange of opinions. The conversation pieces are conceived as a series in which a sculptural collective work is formed from clay mass in conversation. The procedure of holding and speaking, kneading and listening is reminiscent of strategies of respectful communication and speech techniques and demands the highest concentration. Socially and culturally political explosive topics are thus brought to negotiation and worked on linguistically as well as manually.
