The Future of Housing in the Digital Age - Strategies for Social Housing in Vienna and the Metropolitan Region

In a time of ever faster global change, the long-standing tradition of Viennese social housing policy is an extraordinary constant. However, digitization, urbanization and climate change, population growth and the growing convergence of the metropolitan region as well as the increasing dynamics on the real estate market are changing the general conditions for the housing policy and require constant adjustments.

In the light of this background, the Housing Research Day does not focus on one single focus this year, but rather allows a panoramic view of the different current challenges. In addition, he gives an insight into current projects in the housing research program, which address these specific questions. Alain Thierstein, Professor of Spatial Development at the Technical University of Munich, is reflecting in his guest lecture i.a. on the question as to how digitization is changing concrete urban spaces and what scopes for action and design ultimately emerge.
