To neighborhood walk
The project "4 im Viertel" consists of four buildings with up to six residential floors. The apartments are built flexibly so that the residents can make changes at any time (Plus Zone). The living space can thus always be adapted to the current living situation. A manual developed by the architects' office (Housing Manual) shows examples of the many possible uses of the apartment floor plans, depending on the type of apartment.
In addition to communal areas on the ground floor, there is an in-house communal terrace strip on the 3rd floor: the 'deck.' It connects all four houses via bridges. On the ground floor there are publicly accessible and 'inclusive' spaces.
A special feature of the residential complex are the two communal living arrangements located on the ground floor. One of the shared apartments is a typical shared apartment, where several people share a common room. The main focus is on community and low-cost living. In order to reduce the start-up investment, the shared apartment is equipped with a communal kitchen. The second residential community is rented by the organization "Neunerhaus" and rents out the individual residential units to socially disadvantaged people. The common rooms are grouped around the central "Platz der Mitte" in the centre of the complex.
