Grüner Markt
Neighborhood: Quartiershäuser Sonnwendviertel
About 30% of the total floor space of the building is available for commercial use. On the ground floor, there is the Montessori school “Sowiedu” and a large creative workshop for people with disabilities.
The building itself is divided into two staircases connected by a semi-public stairwell—the “scala publica”. It is open to all users and accommodates a cinema, a library and a gallery.
The apartments are located in the lower part of the building on floors 1 to 3, and in the tower on floors 2 to 7. The top floors are occupied by communal areas.
The project "Grüner Markt" is characterised by the mixed use of the space as a neighborhood house. The low part of the house offers space on the ground floor for the Montessori school "Sowiedu" and a large creative workshop for people with disabilities. But many other businesses now also call the Grüner Markt their home.
With their vision and the design of the common areas, a building group has laid the foundation for living in the Grüner Markt. The house community is lively and organized sociocratically. The sociocracy enables democratic participation.
