Winnenden is planning a dense, mixed-use neighborhood on an area of 5.5 hectares. The area is located in the southwest of the city, where fruit growing and agriculture meet with commerce. A new neighborhood is to be created here that uses little land while opening up more residential and commercial space that fits in well with the surrounding area. Thanks to its proximity to the train station and the junction of the B14 highway, the area has good prerequisites for this.
read moreIn spring 2021, the office JOTT architecture and urbanism from Frankfurt am Main won the open urban design competition of the City of Winnenden and the IBA'27. The design for a productive and livable urban neighborhood of the future mixes areas for industry, commerce, housing and leisure in new types of dense and urban building blocks, which are embedded in generous, communally used open spaces. In this way, the district becomes both commercial and residential in equal measure.
As a next step, the City of Winnenden is working with the competition winner to create a framework plan for the area.
