Neighborhood: Quartiershäuser Sonnwendviertel
The Stadtelefant was built by a commercial building cooperative and houses offices, a public restaurant on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. The restaurant on the ground floor is open to employees a a canteen, but also to residents and visitors from beyond the Sonnwendviertel. The Stadtelefant brings together expertise from various areas of the architecture and construction industry. Regular events attract numerous interested parties from all parts of the city.
The office building with its versatile user requirements is uncomplicated and flexible in its design and spatial structure. Vienna's historic Gründerzeit buildings provided inspiration for many aspects of the project - most notably the 3.20 meter high rooms, which are unusual for new office buildings.
