Since 2017 the Architekturzentrum Wien and the IBA_Wien have been inviting international architects* to Vienna in a joint series of events, who are breaking new ground in their projects.
Together with Frédéric Druot and Christophe Hutin, Lacaton & Vassal architectes have renovated three residential buildings from the 1960s in the Cité du Grand Parc in Bordeaux with minimal but effective interventions. The most visible change is the "placing in front" of conservatories and balconies.
read moreThis generous extension was made possible by a highly economical approach that retains much of the existing structure. The project, with a total of 530 residential units, makes it clear that large post-war modernist residential buildings can be brought into the 21st century in a resource-saving manner and that public housing can offer generous spatial experiences. The project was awarded the title of "Europe's best building" in 2019.
