Neighborhood greening - From greenwashing to an effective package of measures: IBA Talk

20.09.2022 | 18:00 - 20:00
IBA-Zentrum, Nordwestbahnstraße 16, 1200 Wien

Climate change is altering the framework conditions for our scope of action and influencing and intensifying many of the challenges that cities have to deal with. Thus, long-term and interdisciplinary approaches are being sought between urban planning, social and housing policy. Climate change also has strong socio-spatial effects. Certain neighborhoods and groups of residents are more affected than others. The development of measures in accordance with the needs of the residents in harmony with the local conditions therefore plays a significant role and thus makes the urban climate an important topic with regard to a equitable city.
Within the framework of the IBA_Vienna, a wide variety of greening projects will be presented: from the sponge city in Seestadt to micro-green spaces in Innerfavoriten, from dense greening and development with neighborhood management in Biotope City to participatory development of open spaces in the Kretaviertel or BOKU research on greening of buildings and mediation by means of the wandering container Mugli. Numerous actors are working on greening / cooling the city in different scales. But what can the greening of buildings actually do, and what distinguishes effective measures from simple "greenwashing"?
