The project "Ich brauche Platz!" ("I need space!") is now making its third appearance in an IBA neighborhood and will be stopping off at the Per-Albin-Hansson Siedlung in Favoriten from 22 June to 29 July 2020. The focus here will be on cooperation with local girls: In various creative settings and through process-oriented coworking with university teachers and students, with artists and local cooperation partners, research will be conducted into what the young women living here think they need space for.
The basis and structure for this process, which is initially open-ended, is provided by the Bus-Laboratory programme, which focuses on specific topics every afternoon from 16:00 to 19:00: With formats such as "Grätzlreisen", "Kreativwerkstatt", "Körperinszenierung", "Quatschbude", "Soundtown", "Action Place" and "Open House", spatial needs are thematised and questioned in playful exploratory processes, new forms of spatial perception are set in motion and different possibilities for appropriating and designing space are developed together.
The programme team 03 Per-Albin Hansson Siedlung:
Harather/Lechner, Music.DISPLACED, Michael Rylko, Svenja Schulmeister, Carla Schwaderer, Barbara Sackl and others in cooperation with Wiener Wohnen, wohnpartner and the youth centre Hanssonsiedlung
From the beginning of October until the end of November 2019, the bus stood in Berresgasse, diagonally opposite the newly opened school, on the edge of the emerging urban development area. In spring 2020 the bus made a short stop in Neu Leopoldau. However, due to the corona virus, the activities there were discontinued and continued in virtual space. In autumn, however, a new start on site is planned!
Ich brauche Platz!
A low-threshold research platform and creative space for young people.
Art in public space manifests itself in the multi-phase project ICH BRAUCHE PLATZ! as a cooperative art and space research process. Studio.DISPLACED functions here as a low-threshold research platform and open creative space.
From October 2019 to June 2020 the bus will stop in three IBA target areas, namely the Vienna urban development areas Berresgasse, Neu Leopoldau and Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung, and will remain stationed for two months in each case. Together with students and local young people as well as other local cooperation partners, artists develop demand-oriented and socially integrative art and spatial research activities.
As a spatial basis, Studio.DISPLACED offers a concretely usable space that is increasingly not (or no longer) available to more and more people in the city: space for joint and non-consumption activities, space for self-effective design activities, space for creative exchange and informal learning with and from each other, space for encounters at eye level and emancipation, ...
The Studio.DISPLACED thus functions as a low-threshold research platform and open creative space: By means of processual joint action, it will be sounded out, experimentally tested and documented what the young people already resident in this urban development area think they need space for in their - now strongly changing - neighborhood, where it should be located, how it should be created and used.
Reaching young people directly on site, actively involving them in the cooperative art and research process, is not only aimed at gaining knowledge and generating new knowledge. It is just as important to initiate processes of spatial perception and appropriation that will continue to have an effect over the course of the project, to strengthen the creativity of the young people and their joy in doing creative work themselves, and thus to open up new spaces for them to think and act.
