With the "Am Seebogen" neighborhood, aspern Seestadt has for the first time ventured onto the north side of the lake and has thus also broken new ground in terms of open space qualities. On the one hand, the sponge city principle was implemented for the first time on a large scale in an entire neighborhood, enabling an improvement of tree locations as well as an optimized use of rainwater. On the other hand, the Elinor Ostrom Park, which runs through the entire neighborhood, shows how areas underneath a subway line can function as part of a coherent park landscape and ideally combine the themes of sports and recreation.
On a joint walk through the quarter, we would like to take a closer look at the special open space planning features of this IBA neighborhood and explain the background to them.
